What is a Bernedoodle?
What's a Bernedoodle?
A Bernedoodle is a hybrid cross of a Bernese Mountain Dog and a Standard Poodle. This is a wonderful paring because of the benefits to both breeds.
The Bernese Mountain Dog originated from the area of Bern, Switzerland. Originally, they were farm dogs around the Swiss Alps working as watch dogs, pulling carts, and herding cattle. They have kept farmers company working alongside them for centuries. The Bernese Mountain Dog — or Berner — is easily recognized by its beautiful tricolored of black, white, and rust symmetric markings. They are large dogs but have the most gentle and patient personalities. They LOVE to be near people!
The downside of Berners is that they are so large that many people shy away from owning them, they shed continually, and they live relatively short lifespans.
That’s why Bernadoodles have increased in popularity. When you cross a Bernese Mountain Dog with a Standard Poodle, the resulting puppies are smaller in size, have little to no shedding, and enjoys the benefit of ‘hybrid vigor’ which means they live a healthier, longer life than either of the purebred parents.
Bernedoodles, like Goldendoodles, have fun-loving personalities, are patient and gentle, and desire for companionship. What sets them apart is that they keep the striking Bernese Mountain Dog markings!
We love these beautiful puppies, and we know you will too!
